The journalistic penchant for sensationalism has played a decisive role in promoting stereotypes to the larger society. The mass media is not, of course, motivated primarily by the quest for truth. Instead, the mainstream media is driven by market forces and by the necessity of competing with other newspapers, other TV news shows, and so forth.- James R.L.
